Steamer Trunk

Here's a steamer trunk I made for my daughter before she went off to college.

The box is plywood and covered in oak veneer.

The dimensions are about 18" high by 18" wide by 36" long.

It has walnut trim and brass hardware.

It's finished with several coats of high gloss poly.

The inside has a removable tray for smaller items.

The tray is made of poplar with walnut handles and trim.

The handles stick up enough for easy access.

I found some real clean white oak veneer for the inside.

Here's a close-up of the corner joint. I used an oak cleat integrated for strength.

The tray is a little shorter to make room for the lid hinge.

The end of the handles were relief cut to receive the side and bottom pieces.

All in all a great project that took about a month to complete on and off.
