Steak and Potatoes (The Fried Edition)
There is nothing better than steak and potatoes. Or is there? Hmmm. Steak? Good. Potatoes? Good. Fried? Oh yeah!!! We took a classic meal and made it even tastier. Probably way worse for you too, but sooo good. So let's do this!
*Please make sure you're blood pressure isn't already high before eating this!
Gather Your Ingredients
You'll need steak (any kind you prefer), russet potatoes (these work best for frying), 6 eggs, 1 cup of milk (we forgot it in the picture), 6 cups of flour, and a half cup of seasoning salt. That's it.
This doesn't take long to prep, so go ahead and plug in your fryer and let it start heating up.
Flour Mix
No, don't put flowers in the bowl! Flour. Put 6 cups of flour in a bowl with 1/2 cup of seasoning salt. Blend well.
Mix the Eggs and Milk
Pour one cup of milk....NO! Not Chocolate Milk! Ok, one cup of PLAIN milk into another bowl. Crack 6 eggs into it and beat it all up really well.
Cut the Taters
Wash however many potatoes you want. Peel them if you like or leave the skin on. Cut into bite-sized chunks. Put the cut potatoes in a bowl of cool water to keep them fresh, and set aside.
Cut the Steak
Trim your steak and cut into large chunks or strips. It's that simple.
Potato Time
Drain the potatoes and dump them all into the flour mix. Mix them around really well. The extra water on them will help them get well coated.
Your hands will get really messy, so have something handy to wipe them on, liiiiiiiike.......the nearest kid!
Steak Time
Drop the steak into the egg/milk mix (AKA egg wash), then mix it well in the flour mix. Put them back in the egg/milk, and again in the flour mix. This will make sure they are well coated, and good and crispy.
Fry!!!!
I like to fry the potatoes first. They take longer to cook and stay hot while the steak cooks. Also, they don't leave little pieces of breading floating around in the fryer like the steak will. So your food will look better. But really, who cares how it looks? So do it in whichever order you please.
Potatoes are done when the coating is golden brown, and they start floating to the top.
Steak may not float, so just keep mixing them around for about 5-7 minutes.
Put fried food on a paper towel-lined plate to drain some of the grease. Shake on a dash of salt. I know. Making them even worse for you.
