Stay Away Lightbox

Stay Away Lightbox

We are dogs’ biggest enemy and we are here to save pet owners.

What do dogs get excited about besides playing fetch? The answer is food. They would eat anything. So don’t you hate to see your dog stealing snacks from the food cabin? It is almost like your money getting stolen by your child at home. Nobody likes that.

Lightbox is an interior decor that serves as your food cabin guard with an “implanted” buzzer, a movement sensor, and surrounding lights. When the dog approaches the Lightbox, the sensor will sense movement and enable the buzzer to sound and the light to change color as a way to warn and scare away your greedy dog.

Supplies

  1. Metro circuitboard
  2. Breadboard
  3. Breadboarding wire bundle
  4. Solid-core wire spool
  5. Ultrasonic distance sensor HC-SR04
  6. Neopixel strip
  7. Buzzer 5V
  8. 12 x 24 black acrylic sheet
  9. Black wood frame
  10. Black foam board
  11. Wool

Lasercut

Create your design in Illustrator and cut out your graphics with a laser cutter. If the laser cutter did not entirely cut through the acrylic sheet, carefully trace over the lines on the back with a utility knife.

Drilling

If the laser cutter didn't cut through the windows, use a drill out the windows.

Based on the size of your acrylic sheet, measure the neopixel strip and cut them into corresponding length. Tape the soldering part with electric tape, make sure there is no exposing wires in contact with eachother.

Assembling Stars

Poke five holes in the foam board, and tape the neopixels from the back. Make sure the holes are big enough for the light to go through.

Assemble Mountain Lights

Cut a small thin piece of cardboard. It is a base for the light strip, while protecting the light from black foam board and acrylic sheet.

Diffuse Light

Cut a square piece cardboard and hot glue it on the back of the mountain peak to stabilize the wool. Then cut another piece of cardboard as a base for the second long light strip and tape it. Repeat the steps for the last two layers of acrylic sheets.
