I Made this Orb to go along with my sons Start Lord Costume which can be seen here Star Lord

Gather Your Materials

To make this you need

a Polystyrene Ball

Tissue Paper

12 Purple LEDS

9 Volt Battery and connector

Purple Plastic - I used a plastic folder

one on off switch

cocktail sticks

Black , Silver and Gold spray paint

Hot wood burning Iron

Start With the Ball

Take the polystyrene ball and cut it in half .

Then using the burner tool - ( I had a wood burner but I'm sure a soldering Iron would be just as good ) and burn in your design. you only need to hover above it as the heat will melt the ball very quickly.

Just to note I would advise you do this in a well ventilated area and if you have a face mask please use it. The fumes from melting this can be quite powerful.

I just created curves and squiggles quite close to each other to achieve the effect I wanted.

First I sprayed both halves with black paint as my undercoat and inlet colour.

Then with the tissue paper I filled in all the open spaces on the ball.

Next I sprayed on my silver coat

Once its dry I then removed the paper from the ball and Im left with what you see in the picture

Preparing the Inside and Making the Holes

Next hollow out part of the inside of each half. This is mainly going to be used to house our fake infinity stone. I cut mine out carefully with a craft blade.

Once that is done push cocktail sticks through each half until it looks like a sort of sea orchid looking thing.

with the sticks still in place spray the inside with the gold spray paint

Allow to dry and remove the sticks

cut out a disc slightly smaller than the half a circle and spray silver , this will give it a silver rim effect.

Making the Stone

To make the stone I soldered my 12 LEDs in parallel to an on/off switch and then to a 9 volt battery.

The bottom of one half of the orb has a hole at the bottom for the switch.

The 9 volt battery then sits on top of this in a groove dug out from the orb.

the LEDs are then on top of the battery and the purple plastic is wrapped around the LEDs.

This is now complete and when on and closed the Orb will emit a purple light from the holes and when opened you will see the stone lit up.
