Sprouting in Hot Weather

This is an easy way to sprout seeds with the Sproutamo sprouter when it is hot and there is a risk of bacterial overgrowth. I'm sure you can adapt it to work with similar instruments. Let your sprouts grow fresh and delicious in a Styrofoam ice box in the tropical heat!

You need a Styrofoam box and at least one (2 is better) gel icepack to go inside. You also need a sharp knife to cut the lid of the box. A marker is useful to draw a circle around which to cut the lid.

Use a knife to cut a hole on the lid of the box. I used the cover to draw a circle that would fit the Sproutamo. If you use another sprouter, make sure this can be inserted through the hole about 2/3 of the way. Enlarge the hole little by little.

Insert the sprouter. If it fits, you're good to go. Otherwise, adjust the hole. If you cut too much, you'll need a new lid for your box! Remove the sprouter to do the normal operations: soaking the seeds, watering, rinsing, etc. Insert it back into the lid and close the box to let the seeds sprout. Remember to change the gel icepack when it becomes liquid. Happy sprouting!

Since I had a spare meat thermometer, I inserted it on the side to keep the temperature inside under control. If it is very hot, you may want to use two gel packs (or buy an air conditioner, but that would be cheating!).
