Springy Blockhead

This is something that I came up with when I had to much time on my hands.

I scrounged around and found some wire, a small block of wood and a photo of my partner.

With the addition of scissors, some white glue, a electric drill with a small bit and an hot glue gun.

The block of wood was a piece of 2X2 that was about 3 ½ inches long.  I took a picture that had a good full face view and printed it on regular paper. I made sure that the distance from outside of the eye to outside of the eye was the same as my wood width. Whit this size in mind I was able to fold the ears over onto the side of the block.

I cut out the portion of the image/face that I was going to use and then used the white glue to attach the face to the block. White glue will dry clear and should not change the colors on the face. I set this aside to dry.

My next step was to prepare the HAIR for my creation. I dug in my scrape pile and came up with some old phone cables (about 15 inches in length) and stripped of the outer sheath and was left with multiple wires in various colors.

I wrapped the wire around a pencil to form a spring. I left one end of the spring straight to glue it to the head/wooden block.

NOTE - if you don't have leftover wire in you scrap pile you can go to an electronics store (Radio Shack or Frys in my area) and buy a couple of feet of computer cable (cat 5) and strip off the outside wrap.

Now that the face is dry you will need to drill a few small holes to stick the ends of your hair/springs into. I place a small spot of hot glue and insert the springs.

This is a silly little craft project that is quick to make, easy enough to do with small kids and will be a smile to your face.

One springy blockhead is fund but just imagine your whole family and your pets immortalized.
