You'll need the following:

  • White Grape Juice (or other light colored juice, water is also a great substitute)
  • Gelatin Packets
  • Disposable Petri Dishes
  • Food Coloring
  • Decorations*

*I used Candy Eyeballs, Rainbow Nerds Rope, Pull apart Rainbow Twislers, Sprinkles and Gummy Worms.

Juice

Measure out 1 cup of juice into a glass pyrex measuring cup or into another microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 1 1/2 minutes, or until the juice is boiling.

Remove from the microwave and set aside to cool for at least 30 seconds to a minute.

If you do not have a microwave, you can also heat your juice up on the stove it will just take longer.

Add Gelatin

Once your juice has cooled so that it is just barely steaming, pour in one gelatin packet. Mix thoroughly until the gelatin has dissolved completely.

Color Your Jello

Once your gelatin is mixed into your juice, you can add color.

Depending on how many petri dishes you'd like to fill, you have the option here to split up your juice mixture into two separate containers to obtain two different colors from one batch. Otherwise just add the color to the gelatin you already have and you can mix up another batch for a different color after.

Add one to three drops of food coloring to your gelatin mixture until your desired color is achieved.

Pour

Place a piece of wax paper or parchment paper down on a cookie sheet. This will help your petri dishes stay in place and allow you to see the color more clearly.

Pour your freshly colored gelatin mixture into your petri dishes. You'll want to fill them up 3/4 of the way to the top. Remember that some of your fun decorations are going to take up space, adding to the volume in the petri dish and pushing the liquid level up.

Let your gelatin cool for a couple minutes so that it looses heat before you add your gummies. If you don't allow it to cool, your gummies may melt slightly.

Before your gelatin sets, add your gummy decorations. This will allow the gummies to sink into the gelatin. Play with layering and colors. Have fun!

Place your lined cookie sheet and jello petri dishes in the fridge and allow cooling for up to 2 hours.

Final Decoration

Once your jello petri dishes have set up you can add your final decorative touches. Place your candy eyeballs and sprinkle your various sprinkles.
