I don't know about you, but I love colorful things. Anything that isn't grey, black, or white is something I like. So when I was asked how I should paint a room in my house, I, of course, replied with "RAINBOW!!!!!!". Okay, maybe not like that, but I knew I had to paint some sort of rainbow. The question was, how? I'm not going to paint a whole room with rainbow polka-dots or something like that. Then it hit me; splatter paint! Here's an easy-to-follow tutorial on how to splatter paint a room in your house.

Supplies

  • A room (of course)
  • Rainbow acrylic paints of your choice
  • Paintbrushes; any type wider than 1 inch will do
  • Tarps
  • Painters Tape (The thick blue tape)
  • White wall paint

Prep the Room

First you prep the room: this means painting the walls the color you want in the background (I did white), Taping off things in the room such as the trim around the floor/windows, and tarping off everything large (Windows, doorway, ceiling, etc.) Tarping everything off can be a bit tricky, so if you have someone who can help you, I suggest asking them.

Gather Your Supplies

Next, gather your supplies, and lay them out how you want. I put my paint on paper plates and that really helped me while splatter painting. I also suggest having on clothes that you're okay with getting paint-ey. I simply wore a t-shirt and pants that I had already gotten paint on from past projects.

Start Painting

Start splattering! To get the perfect "splatter paint style", you need to dip the tip of your brush in paint (don't do too much), then hold the brush vertically and strike down. I practiced before I started (On the tarped-off floor), and that really helped me find the perfect way to hold and use the brush.

After the Painting

After you finish painting, don't start taking the tarps and tape off; wait until the next day. For now, all you need to do is wash your brushes and change clothes.

Finishing Up

About 12+ hours after you painted, you can check the walls to see if they have dried, if so, then you can carefully un-tape and un-tarp the room. If the room has NOT dried completely, leave it for about 2-5 more hours, then complete the process above.

Now, voila! You have an amazing, gorgeous, splatter-painted room. Thanks for reading my instructable!
