Splashproof DucKumentBag

The Splashproof DucKumentbag is a universal usable bag to stroe newspapers, letters, electronic devices like tablets and notebooks.

It opens and closes gently using a magnetic locking tab. It has also the feature that it can be mounted on a Fridge with some magnets in the backplate. You can also mount it in a electrical distribution box, to store the right kind of fuses or the documentation of the installation.

The things to get started are not that much, so you can use this as a creativity sample project.

I only needed in my case:

• Tape ( if you like in different colors)
• something for the closing mechanism
  • in this case small magnets and thin methalpiece
• Scissors
• Some stickers to pimp the look
• A magnet bar in the back

You can make it in less than 30 minutes if you know what to do, but it will take about 4 hours with students and you can also use it as a cheap solution to store drawings in the scool or maybe with belts as a transportbag.

On the other side the handling of tape while creating something useful will be slightly hard to do at the very beginning.

It will also train the members of a course or a seminar, to think different about materials.

Take whatever you want to store and measure the proportions of it.

Add about three inches to (about 7 cm) to make the the locking tab. For the left and riht side just add about 1,5 inches (3-4 cm) depending how huge is the stack you want to store.

Make a tapefoil with the calculated proportions and make sure that you cover the sticky side of tape also with tape.

This foli should have now two sides wich are not sticky and it must be bigger than the calculated format.

It is also recommended that you have eventually a second person who can help you to process everything a bit faster.

Cut the tapefoil to the calculated proportions and make sure that whatever you like to put into the bag can fit inside of it.

To make the bag a bit more durable, seal the edges with some tape.

Choose the visible side and put the choosed side on your workingsurface so that you can see it.

Attach two strips of tape which are a bit longer than the half of the left and right side to it. (So that the bag can be closed left and right and so that the bag can finally flipped inside out).

Cut away the protruding tape

To form a gentle flap, cut away the edges of the flapfoil.

Additionally cou can attach any kind of closing mechanism to it.

In this case i have choosed a pair of magnets and thin steel plates.

Finally you have to attach everything so that opening and closing is possible.

To attach it on a metalcovered door, i simply sticked a magnetpanel from a old tabletcasing onto the backside of the bag. Finally i attached some fancy stickers to pimp the look and feel of the bag.

One more thing would be to add some hole rivets to the bag. Because it would be possible to hang it on a wall.

Well done, now you should be able to store documents or what ever inside the bag.
