Spiral Wraps Out of Hoses or Cable Sleeve Ends

With this cutter you can make your own spiral wraps out of left over hose pieces or cable sleeve ends.

The Spiral cutter is 3d printable. You can download the 3D model from Thingiverse:

The cable guide tube is customizable, so you can design your own cable guide diameter tube accordingto the hose to cut.

The intention is to re-use old hose or cable sleeve pieces

You already had the problem, to organize your cables and bind them together, but you didn't have the right spiral wrap on hand ?
Then this tool may be for you.

Supplies

The following parts are needed to mount the ready printed parts together:

1 sharp Cutter knife 100 x 18 x0.5 mm

2 screws M4x12 - with your desired flat screw head

2 screws M4x16 DIN 912 (Allen screws with flat head)

2 Nuts M4

2 screws M6x8 - with your desired flat screw head - also worm screws can be used.

Tools you need for post processing the 3D printed parts:

M4 thread tap set to cut threads into the guide tube mounting holes

M6 thread tap set to cut the threads into the knife holder holes

If you want to customize your tube guide, download also the file tubeguide.scad and tubeguide.json and set the parameters according to your tube diameter in the OpenScad Customizer. You need to install OpenScad on your computer to be able to use the customizer of the software. Open Scad is free software:

Threads in the Knife Holder

Cut two M6 threads into the 4.8mm holes of the knife holder. You may extend the threads to the opposite side, therefore the holes are going through the holder.

Threads in the Tube Guide

Cut two M4 threads into the 3.3 mm holes of the tube guide.

Insert the Knife Into the Knife Holder

Insert the cutter knife 100x18 so the blade faces to the tip of the knife holder and insert the two M6x8 screws that fix the knife in the holder. Do not fully tighten tge screws at this stage.

Slide the knife holder into the main block and insert the two
M4x16 screws held on the opposite side using two M4 nuts. Do not finally tighten the screws.

Mount the Tube Guide

Mount the tube guide onto the main block using two M4x12 screws

Adjustment and Fixing

Adjust the knife, so it reaches the thickness of the hose to cut and fix it using the two M6 screws.
Also adjust the knife angle to the desired spiral pitch and tighten the two M4 allen screws.
If you are sure all screws are tight, you are ready to cut your hoses.
