We are students from Saint James School in Hagerstown Maryland ,named Peter Kartley and Colin Vink. We created this because we both really love the ideas of optical illusions, and wanted to see how they could be made in real life!

Supplies

Vinyl cutter(Cameo) computer, knife, vinyl paper(glossy)

We started by designing the optical illusion on the app Silhouette. We grabbed ideas from all over the internet, then eventually decided on one that would fit our needs and wants. On the app, you select shapes, then size them accordingly to the illusion. It is important to make this as accurate as possible, because you will send this to the machine Cameo to cut out an outline.

We peel the design out on multiple different colors of the vinyl paper. This needs to be done carefully, because the illusion will not work properly without the right sizes. While peeling, you will only peel a layer per color, as shown in the final product. This gives it the illusion that it is moving in different directions.

We then paste all of the individual designs using transfer paper onto a poster board. This will make the whole thing come together, eventually making the design that you see on the final product

Finally, you paste the board onto a piece of firm cardboard, then poke a whole through the middle with a pin. You then hold the pin in place with a clip, and spin the board with about 7/10 strength. Also, this illusion works only when watched back through a video, so make sure to take out your phones and watch the magic!!You have now completed the optical illusion and can see magic!!
