Spinning Necklace Pendant

Some people suffer from high levels of anxiety, which causes them to fidget around a lot. Whether they are tapping their foot or fidgeting around with their hands. I wanted to create an accessory that anyone can carry everywhere they go. This design would become a sensory fidget necklace that would help calm people down and make them feel at ease. This necklace allows your hands to be occupied by spinning the globe around in a horizontal motion.
Inspiration:
I found inspiration by searching on the web for an accessory that can be used for much more than just wearing. I wanted to create something that would serve a purpose. My inspiration can be found in these links:
Supplies
- 3D Printer
- CAD Program (I used SolidWorks)
Creating Outer Base

For the first step, you create an outer base. Like the one shown above, I created a ring like circular base. After it is created, I used a mid-plane in order to create a design. I made sure to align the dimensions to make sure that they are created with equal lengths. I used the centerline to make sure that the arcs are equally spaced. Once the design is created, I used the circular pattern tool so that the design could go around the base (make sure they are equally spaced).
Next, you will have to extrude your design. Use the mid-plane option to make sure the design is placed in the middle. Smart Dimension it to 0.20 inches.
Create the Base Add Ons

For the second step, you will create the Add Ons for the base. You will need to use the Top Plane and dimension it to where you want it placed; this is so that you can the entries where the middle design will be placed. The first entry is 0.40in. from the plane and its height is 0.10 in., once you are ready to extrude the figure be sure that it points the right way. The first one points down.
Repeat the steps with the second figure. The second entry is 0.30in. from the plane and its height is 0.25in. The second one points up.
For the hoop make sure to place the front plane in the middle. You will then create the design like shown above to create the hoop for the chain of your choice to go through.
Create the Inner Piece

For the third step, you will need to create a sphere. The sphere I created is 0.90in. in height. Once created, you will need to create a hole in the center of the sphere. The circle for the hole should be 0.20in. wide and be cut-extruded through all.
Add Texture

For the fourth step, you will need to find and image that you want placed on your module. I chose a world height map (continents), so that it replicates the Earth. First, you change the face appearance of the sphere and replace it with the image. Make sure that it is placed equally. Next, you will select the 3D Texture icon. With that you will check off the box shown and decide how much you want of the texture you want to be shown (I did 0.07in.). Finally, click the check in the top left corner for your design to be shown.
End Result

Finally for the final step, assemble your parts together. Once you are ready to 3D print make sure to cut the outer base in half, so that the ball can fit through. After they are done printing and put together make sure to glue the outer base back together.
Now you are ready to place it on a chain and relief your stress on the go!
