Hi, today I want to show you how you can make a spiky easter egg.

We all know the traditional way of making easter eggs by painting or dyeing them. But did you know, you can also use crayons to make them look amazing - and it isn't in the way you might think.

Supplies

What you will need:

  1. a raw egg
  2. a needle
  3. some crayons (whatever colors you like)
  4. a candle
  5. a toothpick and some string to hang the egg

Emptying the Egg

First you need to remove the egg white and the yolk by making two holes, at the top and the bottom of the egg.

One of the holes needs to be enlarged, about as big as shown in the picture.

Place your mouth over the small hole and start blowing air into the egg, so that the egg white and yolk get pushed out of the larger hole.

Now clean the inside of the egg by pouring some water through the large hole, shaking it around and pouring it out again to remove any residues inside the egg.

Making the Spikes

Next we can begin decorating the egg with spikes.

Here you can be creative with your designs and let your imagination run free.

To make a spike take a crayon and hold it over the flame of the candle until a droplet of molten crayon starts forming.

Now lower the hot droplet towards the egg until it attaches itself to the surface and slowly lift the crayon in order to draw out the spike, as shown in the pictures.

Removing Failed Spikes

In case you want to remove a spike, because it didn't turn out the way you wanted, just wait a few seconds for the wax to cool down and harden. If you then apply pressure from the side (e.g. with the spine of a knife) it will snap right off.

Now you can try again and keep making spikes.

Finishing Touches

If you are happy with how your egg is looking you can now make the loop for hanging the egg.

For that you need to cut a piece out of a toothpick, as shown in the picture and then tie a knot around it, forming a loop.

Now insert the toothpick piece into the larger hole. The toothpick will flip over on the inside and prevent the loop from slipping out.

You can now hang the egg wherever you like and enjoy the sight :)
