Spiders and Their Webs
Students learned about animal habitats in science class. During their time with me, they took a spiderweb and added the outer layer and hanging ring for the top. They also added legs to a spider.
Exploring 2D and 3D
Input files into TinkerCad. I only put the spiderweb first and once students completed that project, I gave them access to the spider.
Joining the Web
Students used their touchscreens or trackpads to move the pieces into place. This also allowed for exploration in resizing and undo.
Adding Legs to the Spider
In order to not make the project too simple, I rotated one set of legs so that they were oriented in an opposite direction and both sets of legs were on the same side as one another.
Teacher Prints
Once the pieces were joined I printed the webs and spiders separately.
Gluing
I used craft glue on the backs of the spiders and had the students place them on the webs. Should I do this in the future, I am considering using epoxy and floral wire to the bottom of the spider. This would allow the students to move the spider around the web.
