From a young age, I have always enjoyed watching Spider-Man. Something about that suit had me interested in being just like him. I decided that for my very first Instructable, I would make a Spider-Man mask that takes inspiration fully from The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Making the Face Shell

The first thing I did was to look for a way to make a face shell that would hold up all of the mask. After some searches, I found a template on Pinterest that gave me the face shell.( https://www.pinterest.com/pin/319051954867516973/) print out the template and cut out the pieces of paper. Next, trace the shape onto the foam and cut it out. put all of the pieces together to make one half. Then repeat the process again to make the other half. Finally, glue the 2 pieces together to get the full face shell.

Gluing the Eyes

The next thing to do is glue the eyes inside the mask, I used 3d software to create both the outline and the actual eyes. I tried to make a mechanism for the eyes to move, but it failed, so I scrapped it.(ignore the pieces of masking tape, magnets and the string)For the eyes to stay on, I glued a thumb tack in the middle to lock in where the tip of the eyes are supposed to be. Since the thumb tack can still poke you I put a piece cleaning sponge in the middle. Next I put a flexible plastic around the eyes. Make sure that there is over hang so you can glue the plastic to the mask I traced the plastic in red in the picture to show the overall shape. Now take the strands of the plastic and glue them onto the face shell of the mask.

Making the Red Exterior

For the next step, you will need a red cloth and a sewing machine to sew everything together. For the shape, I found another template from the internet and drew it myself. take some pieces of paper to make the shape shown in the picture next put that over the piece of cloth with some pins to hold it in place and cut it out. to know where to glue the pain I made little dots in the paper and let them seep through to the cloth to know where the design was. Now, after the red exterior has been made, get some 3d paint and paint over the dots to create the lines. The paint takes a very long time to dry, so leave it overnight to dry. After the cloth has dried, fold the cloth with the lines on the inside and sew along the edges depending on the length of the zipper you may need to stop sewing about where the red line in the picture is while sewing also make sure that the lines on both halves match up and become one when finished. Next, sew the middle piece to both sides of the mask. Finally, sew the zipper in the back to finish it all up.

The Eye Frames

To glue the eyes I found it easy to put a Styrofoam mannequin head inside the face shell first, then put the cloth over the mannequin with the face shell. connect the eyes outline to where you want it and glue it with hot glue. After it has dried, cut inside the outline of the eye to reveal the white eye. Repeat the process with the other eye you are done. Next get a water bottle gallon and glue it to the inside of the eye frame to give it a glossy effect.

Now you too can be Spiderman. This Idea was inspired by Sony and Marvel Studio's Spider-Man and I give credit to them for giving me the idea for this build.
