Use this easy method if you ever find yourself in a desperate need of whipped cream, but can't be bothered/don't have time to find a hand mixer. The cream gets whipped in the same container you keep it in, minimum clean-up and no need for any extra equipment. Quick and stealthy, perfect if you are getting a midnight snack, great for topping ice-cream, pancakes or turning espresso into espresso con panna.

Supplies

2 must have ingredients:

  1. whipping cream (otherwise known as: heavy cream, cream, double cream...as long as it's 30%–36% fat)
  2. sweetener of your choice (best options are syrups: honey, agave, maple; or powders like powdered sugar, splenda or artificial sweeteners; basic granulated sugar will do too)

There is no set recipe as it all depends on individual taste. Rough guide is 1 cup of cream + 2 tablespoon of sugar (or alternative), but if you like your whipped cream sweeter- add more.

Optional additions:

  1. flavoring like vanilla bean paste; lemon, almond extract etc
  2. for a boozy whipped cream- small quantity of alcohol like rum or baileys
  3. powdered coffee/espresso or cocoa powder

Container

You need to choose a container that's both light and impenetrable.

Your best bet is a plastic Tupperware box with a good lid, preferably with tabs on all 4 sides (as seen in the picture above) or with a really good rubber seal to prevent any spillage.

Protein shakers with wide-mouth openings, plastic soup bowls with lids could work as well. Glass jars can be used too, but I don't recommend it, if it slips from your hand, that's a potential injury.

Sweetener

Add the sweetener of your choice to the Tupperware box and dissolve it with a spoonful or two of boiling water.

If you are using granulated sugar and having issues dissolving it, you can add a little bit more boiling water or a little bit of cream and straight-up microwave it until dissolved. That's why it's best to use syrups or powdered sweeteners.

If you want to, add flavorings at this point.

Add cream to the box and close securely. Tip upside down to see it there is any leakage. If you are not confident, you can always put the plastic box inside a plastic bag or wrap a kitchen towel around it.

Don't overfill the container, leave at least 25% of the container empty.

Shake, Shake, Shake

Shake the container until the liquid stops sloshing inside the box.

You can shake with one hand or both hands, shake vigorously or apathetically.

It won't take long, anywhere between 45 seconds and 1min 15 seconds and your cream will be soft-whipped.

Perfect Soft Peaks

Once the liquid stops sloshing, you have to open the box and check the consistency.

If it's too soft for your needs, you can shake it a few more times and check again. Don't shake too hard otherwise it will become grainy and overwhipped.
