How to make the Isopropyl 2000 Flash Diffusor at Home.

This tutorial will help you make a diffuser for your flash unit. I am not responsible for any damage that may occur as a result of the use or misuse of this tutorial or the diffuser, or for your friends laughing and pointing their finger at the diffuser when you are using it.

Have fun, and happy shooting!

You'll Need...

0001.jpg
You'll need: Ruler, Scissors, 2 wide velcro, Tiny hole punch, Sharpie, Paper Clip, Isopropyl Alcohol bottle. For attaching the velcro, six poly-resin snaps or a needle and thread.

Step 2

0002.jpg
Empty and dry the alcohol bottle, then remove the label.

Step 3

0003.jpg
Using a piece of string or a rubber band, draw a guide line around the bottle with the Sharpie marker.

Step 4

0004.jpg
Using the scissors, cut the bottle on the guide line.

Step 5

0005.jpg
Mark a similar guide line at the top shoulder of the bottle with the sharpie and cut on that line as well.

Step 6

0006.jpg
Now slip one end of the bottle over the top of your flash and put the large paper clip on the end of the bottle opposite the flash.

Step 7

0007.jpg
Use the Sharpie marker and Paper Clip to draw nice guide lines -- the rounded end of the clip makes drawing a curve easier.

Step 8

0008.jpg
Mark a line across between the two guide lines you just made, and also curved lines at the top on each side.

Step 9

0009.jpg
Cut the section you just marked on the guide line.

Step 10

0010.jpg
Now mark dots 3/8 inch up from the bottom of the bottle edge opposite the cutout that you just made. This edge will be towards your flash in the finished product.

Step 11

0011.jpg
Make six such marks, two on the long side and one on each of the short sides.

Step 12

0012.jpg
Use your tiny hole punch to punch out the dots.

Step 13

0013.jpg
Now cut your velcro hook parts into three equal sections, and further divide one of those sections into two smaller sections. Round the bottom corners and transfer markings to the velcro to match the holes you just punched in the plastic.

Step 14

0014.jpg
Use your tiny hole punch to punch out the marking dots on the velcro.

Step 15

0015.jpg
Now, use an industrial hand press to apply the poly-resin snaps to hold the velcro to the plastic bottle. If you do not have such a press, punch additional holes in the velcro and bottle and use a needle and thread to attach the velcro to the bottle.

Step 16

0016.jpg
Fold the 2 wide Velcro loop section and wrap it around the top edge of your flash unit, using a little piece of hook section between the flash unit and velcro loop to hold it snugly in a circle.

Step 17

0017.jpg
Use the velcro hook bits on your diffuser to attach the diffuser to the loop part of the velcro on your flash unit, and you're all set to go!
