  2. Start another burner on medium heat for the saucepan adding 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil.
  3. Gather all other cooking tools for easy access.

Chop the Vegetables

  1. Add the chopped garlic to the pan and stir in the oil.

  1. Add the tomatoes, mushrooms, and olives to the pan.
  2. Add 1 cup of Merlot to let the vegetables cook in the wine. This gives the vegetables a more robust flavor.
  3. Add ¼ cup of basil to the vegetables and let them cook for 5-7 minutes.

Adding the Tomato Sauce

IMG_5838.jpg
  1. Add half of the Prego jar to the pan and stir.
  2. After mixing the tomato sauce with the vegetables, put heat on low and let the sauce simmer.
  3. Check on the sauce while cooking the noodles in Step 7 to ensure it will not overcook.
    • To identify overcooked sauce, look toward the edges of the sauce pan. The sauce is overcooked when clumps are visible and stuck to the pan surface.
    • If sauce is overcooking lower the burner heat, remove clumps with the spoon, and stir them into the sauce.
    • If needed, add more wine and basil for more flavor.
