Southern Style Cabbage

What you will need: 1 head of green cabbage, 4 strips of bacon, 2 cups of water, 1/8 cup of garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Prepping the Cabbage

Cut the cabbage in 1/2 and cut out the stem. Then cut into 1 inch strips and then in 1/2. Wash the cabbage in a clean sink. Strain and set aside for later.

Bacon

Precook bacon and save the grease. Chop bacon after cooled and put aside for later.

Preheat Pan

In a large saucepan heat 2 cups of water and 4 tablespoons of bacon grease on high heat until it starts to boil.

Adding the Cabbage

Add as much cabbage as will fit,( about 1/2). As it starts to cook down flip/ stir with tongs bring the cooked cabbage to the top and the uncooked cabbage to the bottom.

Adding the Rest

Once all the cabbage is cooked down and the rest of the cabbage and the chopped bacon. Add 1/8 of a cup of garlic powder and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Simmer

Place lid on the cabbage an simmer on low. Keep stirring until all the cabbage is cooked down.
