Sopapillas
Sopapillas are crispy, airy, and delicious deep fried pastries. My recipe just has 5 ingredients.
Supplies
The supplies are: a mixer, sifter (optional), rolling pin, butter knife, pastry mat (optional), and a pan to fry in.
Ingredients
1). 2 cups flour
2). 3 teaspoons baking powder
3). 1/2 teaspoon salt
4). 1 tablespoon shortening
5). 1/2 cup lukewarm water
Mixing and Sifting Dry Ingredients
1). sift the flour before you mix it with the other ingredients.
2). Mix together the flour, salt, and baking powder in a mixing bowl.
Adding the Shortening
1). Mix the shortening in to the bowl with the flour, salt, and baking powder until it's resembles coarse.
2). When it is coarse add the 1/2 cup of lukewarm water to make the dough.
The Dough
1). When the dough is done knead until smooth. Then divide in half, and let it set for 10 min.
2). After rested, role out to a 1/8 inch and cut into a 2 x 2 square.
Frying the Sopapillas
1). The oil needs to be 375 degrees. After cut put the sopapillas into a pan/pot that is around half way full of oil give them about 6-10 seconds on both sides and cook until golden brown.
