Soldering Vapor Exhaust
Today I decided to build myself something to suck the vapors away from me, because the vapors that come from soldering are toxic and dangerous and shouldn't be inhaled.
Supplies
You'l need :
- A 12 V fan
- A 12 V power supply
- A 3.5 mm power jack (not necessary)
- Some shrinking tube
- A soldering iron
- Some hotglue
- And a case to put it in
The Case
I 3D printed a case because I have a 3D printer, but it can also be made of cardboard or other things. The case is just a nice to have thing but not necessary.
Wiring
I started with soldering the jack to the supply. I used a bit of shrinking tube to isolate and to make it look better. But before you put the big shrink tube be sure to memorize where the positive and the negative terminals are. Next, I soldered the plug to the fan, I made shore that the center tab the negative is because on the jack the center piece is also the negative terminal. You could also just connect the supply directly to the fan, like I already said it's just a nice to have.
Assembly
The last step is to assemble every thing. I started by takeing a bit of material of the fan away because it was in the way of the plug. Next I glued the plug with some hot glue and at last I put the fan in the case also with some hot glue. Now if you have a activated carbon filter you should put it behind or in front of the fan to filter the vapors but I didn't have one at the momment.
