Wereables contest:

Hi guys, this article will cover how to make a charger built into the jacket that uses solar energy to charge the phone. This project consists of adapting an element that we all use, in this case a jacket, a task that we carry out a newspaper. to help the use of sustainably produced energy (solar energy) more quickly, taking advantage of an activity that is done every day (such as walking) for something else that is also done every day or week (depending on the mobile model and how much use it). In addition, the awareness of the project and helps people in several aspects, for example: forces the person out, this is good to avoid a sedentary lifestyle and lack of vitamin D, building is necessary to understand the operation of a solar circuit and learn to do things for ourselves. This project can also be carried out by people of all ages, including children and adolescents, and, therefore, raise awareness about the use of renewable energy.

Supplies

· Solar charger

· Old jacket or coat

· Phone charger

· Tools

· Swewing machine or needle and thread

· Scissors

. Black marker pen

Step 1: Preparation

Step 1:

Fist we are going to prepare the materials we'll need, it's important to have the correct materials.

You can find them at home or you can buy them low cost on a chinese shop.

The materials are:

· Solar charger

· Old jacket or coat

· Phone charger

· tools

· swewing machine or needle and thread

· scissors

. black marker pen

Step 2: Circuit 1

Step 2:

Now we must prepare the circuit that we are going to use. The circuit consists of the following parts: to solar panel cables, a USB connector. Betweeen the solar panel and the conector we should add a diode in series with the positive pole of the solar panel, if we don't put the diode we take the risk of, it isn't solar radiation the battery will discharged in the solar panel.

Caution: do not confuse the negative and positive poles of the solar panel as well as the USB conector

To prepare the circuit we must first disassemble the solar charger by carefully removing the back cover so as not to damage the solar panel. Do not worry because if the cables were broken or were not long enough they could be changed for longer ones by soldering the terminals with tin. In the case that they were not strong enough, you can put American tape to reinforce them.

Step 3: 3D Pieze

Step 3:

Before mounting the circuit in the jacket we must place a new housing to fix the solar panel to the garment that will be equipped. In case you have a 3D printer you can choose to print the part of the attached file. This piece has been designed with Open Scad, which means that if your solar panel is not exactly the same, you can adjust the values to your solar panel model. In addition the piece has holes to be able to sew it to the garment and fix it stronger to the textile, pvc, etc. of which the garment is.

Step 4: Sew It

Step 4:

Finally, we must use the materials to assemble the circuit to the old coat / jacket that they have used. For this I recommend you follow the instructions given in the images since, honestly, it is very easy to do. The first thing is to locate the site where they will place the solar panel, and mark it with a marker so that it looks. The next thing is to make a hole in that place and put the end of the cable that does not have the plate through it. Now, we must get the cable in until we reach the place where the other end of the cable will go, that is the charger. This will be better understood in the following images.

Step 5: Test It!

After finishing the proyect we'll need to sew the solar charger to the jacket, that's really easy because the 3D pieze has little holles so you can sew it easier.

And then test it, go to somewhere with sun and look if the solar charger has charged your phone.

Luck!!!

Annexed

Here you have the tecnical proyect before doing the real proyect.

I hope you' d like it, and if you find it useful you can create one, I am an spanish teenager with only 13 years and I desing it, so why don't you test it?

I wish you the best, with love:
