"Sock" Yarn, Yarn Made of Socks!

To keep  warm, I am making yarn from socks and using the "sock" yarn in various warming ways.

Assemble Your Socks:

Make a nice pile of socks next to your sewing machine.

Continue, assembly-line fashion!

Start Sewing Your Socks Together:

Mate socks toe to toe.  Push one sock into the other & sew across the toes.

I sewed back and forth.

Working with 2 at a time, sew the socks together.

Because the socks are made of a knit fabric, a zig-zag stitch is suitable because of its stretchy nature.

When done with this seam it is not necessary to trim the threads.

Open the unit by pulling at the cuffs.

Sew all of the paired units together at the cuff.

Slip one cuff into another & sew where they lap,  using the identicle back and forth technique used on the toe.

The thread tails should be cut here!

Warming Up:

Yarn keeps us warm.

Sewn together at the sides, this "sock" yarn makes a blanket, a curtain, a rug...

Half-hitch Cast-on

To knit with "sock" yarn, begin with the Half-hitch Cast-on because it is the easiest!

The gauge  (XL) of the yarn required large knitting pins. I used broom-sticks.

Knitting and purling, row by row, results in a fabric with quite the curl!

Or Crochet!

I crocheted the "sock" yarn with my hand, not finding a large enough hook.

Warm up with a scarf or use your scarf to play with the dogs, warming all of you up!
