Snowman Shower Fragrance Bombs

DIY Shower Bombs are an easy to make craft to use in your daily shower routine. Unlike bath bombs, shower bombs do not contain coconut oil, which helps to keep your shower floor from becoming too slippery. Combined with essential oils, shower bombs can be customized to your needs, whether it be to fight cold and sinus season (peppermint oil), stress and anxiety (lavender oil), or to give yourself a refreshing and natural morning pick-me-up (citrus oils). Once your shower bombs are made, simply place one in the back of your shower, away from the steady stream of water, and enjoy their invigorating and beneficial aromas.

When packaged with our holiday snowman theme, these shower bombs can also make a thoughtful and unique gift for anyone on your list during the holiday season!

Materials/Utensils:

• 1 medium size mixing bowl (glass or ceramic)
• 1 small size mixing bowl (glass or ceramic)
• 1 whisk
• 1 spoon
• Measuring cups (1 C & ½ C)
• Measuring spoons (1 Tbsp.)
• 1 large plate or rectangular pan (to set finished shower bombs on to dry)
• 1 dishtowel/handtowel (to wipe hands)
• 1 set of 2-inch bath bomb molds (aluminum or plastic) *click here for buying options

Materials for Snowman Gift Packaging:

• 9 clear plastic gift bags
• Ribbon of your choice
• Black construction/cardstock paper
• 1 black permanent marker
• Tape
• Pencil (to sketch hat design)
• Scissors

Ingredients:

• 1 cup baking soda
• ½ cup citric acid
• ½ cup cornstarch
• 2 tbsp. witch hazel
• 30+ drops of favorite essential oil

Recipe makes approximately 9 2-inch shower bombs

Using a spoon or whisk, thoroughly mix:

• 1 cup baking soda
• 1/2 cup citric acid
• 1/2 cup cornstarch

Using a spoon, thoroughly mix:

• 2 Tbsp. witch hazel
• 30+ drops of essential oils
• 4-8 drops of food coloring (optional)

NOTICE: Due to the potency of essential oils, plastic materials are not recommended (the oils can break down the chemical makeup of plastic ingredients).

Additionally, adding extra drops of essential oils can help achieve a more powerful fragrance (if desired, add an extra 10-15 drops).

NOTICE: Whisking should be done IMMEDIATELY after combining dry and wet ingredients. Failure to do so will cause a fizzing reaction to occur.

Mix until ENTIRE mixture is dampened and can hold shape when squeezed with hand. It will have a similar consistency to wet sand - you should be able to pack it like a snowball.

NOTICE: If fizzing reaction occurs and mixture is too damp, discard mixture and start over.

The mixture should be level - it should not overfill the mold.

To fill the mold, we found it easiest to use the mold as a "scoop" and retrieve the mixture from the bowl.

This will ensure shower bombs do not roll around and help them keep their shape as they dry.

You can also tap the mold to the palm of your hand to release mixture.

NOTICE: mixture may stick to mold. If this happens, simply continue to tap until mixture is released.

Do not move onto next step until shower bombs are completely dry.

Once shower bombs are completely dry, you can start packaging them. You'll need:

• 9 clear plastic gift bags
• Ribbon of your choice
• Black construction/cardstock paper
• 1 black permanent marker
• Tape
• Pencil (to sketch out hat design)
• Scissors

This will be the snowman's body.

Making sure most of the air escapes will make damage less likely since the shower bombs will have less room to move around. Be careful not to twist the bag too much, however, to avoid the shower bombs becoming too squished/pressed too close together.

NOTICE: As you twist the bag, also make sure to keep the front of the bag smooth and as wrinkle free as possible. This will help later on when you draw the "buttons" onto your snowman.

This will keep contents secure in the bag.

Use pencil to draw/sketch hat shape. Make sure the hat is large enough to cover the opening of the gift bag (top of hat should be approximately 2-3 inches wide; brim of hat should be approximately 4 inches wide).

Once hat is drawn, cut out with scissors.

Place tape on backside of the hat; apply over the twist on the bag.

Use permanent marker - washable marker will not stick.

The top circle, or "button," should be drawn on top of the middle shower bomb. This will ensure that once the ribbon (scarf) is added, the buttons will not be covered up.

The ribbon should be cut into a strip of approximately 12-15 inches long. This step will create the snowman's scarf.

How to use your new shower bombs:

1. Place one shower bomb in the back of your shower away from a steady stream of water.

2. Start your shower

3. Breathe in deeply, relax, and enjoy!
