Snowboard/Ski Rail
This is a quick tutorial on how I built my snowboard rail. It is a quyick and easy build that works very well. It is also very cheap, coming in at close to $20.
Supplies
For this project you will need:
Tools: -Saw -Drill with drill bits Materials: Duct tape, Box of 2" screws (make sure they are the right length), 3 - 1" 10' long PVC pipe, 2 - 8' 2x4, 2 - 10' 2x4
Cutting Wood
First, cut the one of the 8' 2x4s into 4 2' sections. Next, cut the second 8' 2x4 into 4 1' pieces. Then, cut the remaining 4' of 2x4 into 8 pieces that form right angles
Securing PVC
Evenly space out the 4 1' pieces vertically and lay one of the 10' 2x4s on top. Screw each of the pieces in so that they are secure. I pre-drilled my holes to ensure no cracking, but that is totally optional. Lay the three pieces of PVC pipe on top of the mounted 2x4". Tape the three pieces together tightly so that they are evenly spaced along the whole 2x4.
Screwing Down Board
Flip the rail upside down and measure out where the center of the pipes are. You are going to screw up through the bottom of the rail into the PVC to mount it. Drill sets of 3 holes the entire length of the rail. ONLY DRILL THROUGH ONE SIDE OF THE PVC. I did it every 1 1/2 foot and it is very stable. Go back and put a screw in each hole. MAKE SURE that the pipes are flush with the 2x4 when you screw them in. When I do it I put it on the ground and apply pressure with my foot while screwing it in
Finishing Touches
Mount the second 10' 2x4 on the bottom of the vertical spacers. Then, space out the 4 2' sections and mount them on the bottom of the rail. Mount the small supports on each leg. Here I only did the outside legs because half the pieces weren't cut right.
All Done
That's it! You now have a fully functional snowboarding/skiing ramp. Go out and shred!
