Smartphone Milkyway Photography
In this instructable I am gona tell you how to take stunning milkyway shots, with your smartphone.yes you read it right -"with your smartphone".we all have smartphone but only some of us know the real capabilities their camera sensor have.I m using my one plus one with some EXMOR IMX sensor.
Material Required
1.Smartphone with a nice camera sensor ( I am using oneplus one with Sony exmor IMX sensor)
2.Stable tripod
3.Star chart app (like sky portal, star chart,g google sky map,sky safari)
4. Camera Fv 5 or manual camera app
2.Stable tripod
3.Star chart app (like sky portal, star chart,g google sky map,sky safari)
4. Camera Fv 5 or manual camera app
Where to Shoot?
If you live in a city you may have to go far from the city to a light pollution free area wich may take hours of driving but it worth the shots.
Where to Look?
open the star chart app ,enable the ar mode and look for milky way.
Framing the Shot
capturing just the milky way could make you shot a bit boring so try to get some extra subjects in the shot .may be trees or land or mountains.this may make your shot a bit interesting.then attach the smartphone with the tripod.
All About Focusing
Focusing is sometimes a bit frustrating for astrophotography.use manual focus instead of auto focus.set the focus to infinity and take a test shot if the stars appear like blobs then use complete manual focus and take the slider all the way up.
All About Shutter Speed
Some of you may know about rule 500/600.This rule simply helps you to calculate the min and max shutter speed after which the stars starts trailing.just divide the focal length of the lens with 500 and then with 600 this will give you min and max shutter you can have.
Aperature
if you could adjust your aperture set it to max and if can't then aperture f2.0 is great.
ISO
if you have a max shutter of about 50 to 60 seconds then you may have a less iso about 800 to 1600.but this may increase the noise so I suggest you to be at about 1600 max.or if you could shoot in RAW which One plus one can then it would be great.
Post Processing
I usually don't do much post processing but just take the white balance to blue side.and increase the contrast and details in details section in Photoshop.
