Smart Sense (Seismic House Alert / Location and Depth Tracker)

Last 5th and 19th of September, Mexico was hit by two strong consecutive earthquakes, leaving lots of buildings, houses, bridges, and historical heritage ruined. Mexico regularly experiences tremors but this was the country’s most powerful seismic event since 1985, which claimed 5 thousand lives. My school was closed for two weeks, and has severe structural damages. 12 million people, of 400 entities, inside states Chiapas, Morelos, Oaxaca, Mexico City, Estado de México, Puebla, Guerrero, Tlaxcala and Veracruz, were affected. Victims amount to 250,000 people and an estimated 180,731 homes were damaged, of which, 50,610 are lost forever. Live witnessed the earthquake and the struggle to save lives as soon as possible brought to light opportunities which solutions could be implemented in homes of an area vulnerable to these events. Even after reliefs and rebuilding the cities and homes, peoples is in need of security; seismic alert doesn’t reach everyone, caused panic therefore unnecesary accidents, almost 400 people died. Smart Sense is a home integrated earthquake alert and trap location and depth tracker. The concept looks forward helping less people panic, increase efficiency on finding and rescuing them, and also create relief on people as they are conscious of somekind of security. By now, it consists of two objects: the Light Alert and the Electricity Shutter. Both work together, as the Light Alert recieves P and S waves it sends an order to the Shutter so electricity is shut down, preventing worser situation as fires. Similar appliances could be integrated on gas pipes; any application should look after smarter and more secure houses.
