Step 1: Battery Terminals

Step 1 according to the instructions is to insert the battery terminals into the battery box. This step is only necessary if you are using a battery to power the motor.

Step 2: Inserting the Commutator Segments.

to insert the commutator segments you must find the notches in the armature, take the tabs of the commutator and slide them into the notches. next, put the cap over the end of the commutators and push it on. Note: (In order to get the cap and commutators to stay on You must put the cap on with a hammer.)

Step 3: Winding the Coil.

Winding the coil is probably the most important step. The kit supplies you with a spool of laminated wire that will be used for the coil. Note:(Leave about an inch on both sides free.) Start wrapping it counter clockwise. Wrap it 100 times and repeat the process on the other side. Once you have it all wrapped, Sand those pigtails that you left exposed and solder them to the tabs on the commutators.

Step 4. Assembling the Body.

insert the rods in the end of the armature. Next put the copper brushes in place and solder the hook up wires in place. make sure that they have good contact to the commutators. Put the holding brackets in place with the armature sitting accordingly. Finally put the magnets on the magnet plates and slap it all together. You have now completed the small dc motor.
