Have you ever wanted to build a fun little craft that could easily fly something across the room. And for that little craft must of the supplies you need are things that you could find lying around your house. Well, if you have ever wanted to make something like that, I have just the project for you. The slingshot, you know that tiny little weapon that David used to slay Goliath. But this slingshot is built for a different purpose, it is built for you to shoot a decorative ping pong ball and watch it soar through the wind, or your house.

Supplies

  • 4 Rubber Bands
  • Bottle Cap
  • Ping Pong Ball
  • 2 Pipe Cleaners: 1 Brown, and 1 Black and Yellow
  • 2 Pencils
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Black Marker
  • Pink Eraser
  • Wire Cutters (Used for cutting pipe cleaners)
  • Super Glue

For this step and the next one, you might want to plug in the hot glue gun and let it heat up before starting. Once the hot glue gun is ready you can start this step. Take your ping pong ball and your brown pipe cleaner and cut the pipe cleaner into two halves using the wire cutters. Then take one of the halves and cut it into two more halves, and fold each little part into a U. Then glue the two U shaped pipe cleaners onto each side of the ping pong ball, as shown in the pictures.

Take your yellow/ black pipe cleaner and wrap it around the ping pong ball going through the wings. Try to fill as much of the ball with the pipe cleaner as you can, but leave space in the front for the eyes. Then once it is how you like it glue it down with the hot glue. If you need help, please refer to the pictures showing how to glue the pipe cleaner down. Once the pipe cleaner is glued down, you can draw little eyes on the front of the ball in black marker. Once you do that your are finished making your bumble bee, and ready to start on the sling shot.

First take the two pencils and put them together and wrap two rubber bands about 3 times each or until you can't wrap them any more around the bottom of the pencils where the erasers are. Then put the Pink eraser down in-between the 2 pencils pushing on the two rubber bands and wrap another rubber band around the eraser two times to make it stay in place. This will make it so you sling shot stays wide enough.

Then glue the bottle cap with the supper glue onto the last rubber band before putting it on the pencils. Once it is glued on and cooled off, put the rubber band onto the top of the pencils. Make sure the cap is in the middle of the two pencils. Once you put the rubber band on you can put the bumble bee in the cap and let it fly. It might not fly for miles but it will go a couple of feet if you do it right.
