Slim Phone Stand

Hands get tired after streaming movies or videos for a while? Build this fairly simple phone stand for a permanent solution!! That's also extremely portable fits in your pocket or on your key-chain!

Here's what you'll need to get started

1. 3 millimeter wood
2. Magnets1/8 diameter, 1/16 thickness
3. Wood glue
4. Availability to a CO2 laser

I drew my design in Auto-Cad, of course i made this to fit multiple phones but of course you can change it so that it fits your device specifically. I put all the dimensions in the photos above

After you get your files all in order all you got to do is make sure your computer and laser is ready to go!For the magnet holes on the inside I changed the speed of the laser to 45 that way it did not cut through the wood instead only burned through a bit so i had a place for the magnets
Make sure your wood is all lined up and centered and then press go! On the laser that we have it took about 3.5 minutes to cut 3 so it doesn't take too long

The magnets took me a little bit to get down, we (my engineering teacher and I) came up with this technique, the first thing you'll want to do is put glue in all the magnet holes, as you do that get two magnets prepped by having them still together, put them both into the same hole of the base right under the 1 inch circle, obviously one wont go in all the way, and then take the matching leg for the stand and match the hole and magnet together and tap that one into the magnet hole.

Once the glue is somewhat dry slide the magnets off so you don't accidentally pull one out of the hole

When gluing make sure to use lots of clamps to reduce the need for a lot sanding and trimming the excess, when I'm just making one or two and have the time ill take the scraps and put them in the slots to make sure they line up so that's a little trick that could help you.

Sanding is pretty self explanatory.

I used files on the insides slots where the legs slide through so that the legs could slide through easily. Sanding is important to keep everything even and smooth. When applying finisher you must have everything sanded.
