Sliding Puzzle

This sliding puzzle is a puzzle where you slide different pieces around a 5x5 grid. It is completely 3D printed and made in Tinkercad.

Setting up the Board: Set up the board by filling the board in by placing pieces in any arrangement. You may add any amount of 1x2 or 2x2 blocks. Add 1-3 objective pieces, (white) and leave 1-5 empty spaces depending on the desired difficulty. (make sure the arrangement of pieces doesn't make the game impossible to win.

How to Play: Slide pieces in any direction (left, right, up, or down). The goal is to get the objective piece (white) to the top left corner of the board. You make move multiple pieces in one direction by moving pieces behind it, pushing the pieces in front.

Rules:

-You may only remove the objective piece when it reaches the top left corner of the board. No other pieces should be removed

-You may not turn 1x2 pieces in different directions while playing. You can turn then while setting up.

-When moving a piece, you must move it the most you can in the desired direction. For example, you you are moving a piece right, you must move it all the way to the right until it hits the edge, or hits another block that hits the edge. You may move other blocks in the way if needed.

Supplies

  • 3D printer
  • Electronic device capable of using Tinkercad (like a computer or laptop).

Creating the 1x1 Blocks

Go to Tinkercad and create a project.

Click the drop down box in the shapes library and select shape generators.

Click and drag the softbox shape to the workplane.

Click the softbox and set the options to the following:

  • X Dim: 19.5
  • Y Dim: 19.5
  • Z Dim: 6
  • Wall: 100
  • Outer Radius: 5

Click the drop down box in the shapes library and select basic shapes.

Drag the cylinder into the center of the softbox.

Set the dimensions of the cylinder to the following

  • Width: 8 mm
  • Length: 8 mm
  • Height: 8 mm

Set the color of both shapes to white.

Repeat these steps in another project and set the color to red.

Make sure everything is centered by setting the positions of all to the middle.

Creating the 2x1 Block

Create a new project in Tinkercad.

Click the drop down box in the shapes library and select shape generators.

Click and drag the softbox shape to the workplane.

Click the softbox and set the options to the following:

  • X Dim: 39.5
  • Y Dim: 19.5
  • Z Dim: 6
  • Wall: 100
  • Outer Radius: 5

Click the drop down box in the shapes library and select basic shapes.

Drag the cylinder into the center of the softbox.

Set the dimensions of the cylinder to the following

  • Width: 8 mm
  • Length: 8 mm
  • Height: 8 mm

Set the colors to the same shade of red that was previously used.

Make sure everything is centered by setting the positions of all blocks to the middle.

Creating the 2x2 Block

Create a new project in Tinkercad.

Click the drop down box in the shapes library and select shape generators.

Click and drag the softbox shape to the workplane.

Click the softbox and set the options to the following:

  • X Dim: 39.5
  • Y Dim: 39.5
  • Z Dim: 6
  • Wall: 100
  • Outer Radius: 5

Click the drop down box in the shapes library and select basic shapes.

Drag the cylinder into the center of the softbox.

Set the dimensions of the cylinder to the following

  • Width: 8 mm
  • Length: 8 mm
  • Height: 8 mm

Move the cylinder to the middle of the softbox.

Set the colors to the same shade of blue that was previously used.

Make sure everything is centered by setting the positions of all blocks to the middle.

Creating the Board Frame

Create a new project in Tinkercad.

Click and drag a cube shape to the workplane.

Click the cube and set the options to the following:

  • Radius: 0
  • Steps: 10
  • Width: 110
  • Length: 110
  • Height: 10

Make sure the cube is at the center of the workplane.

Making the Board Hollow

Duplicate the cube used for the board frame and set the options to the following:

  • Hole (Make sure the blocks is a hole and not solid. It should make the block semi-transparent)
  • Radius: 0
  • Steps: 10
  • Width: 100
  • Length:100
  • Height: 10

Elevate this shape 5 millimeters above the workplane.

Make sure everything is at the center of the workplane.

Highlight both shapes and click the group button or press CTRL + G

Set the color of the board to yellow.

Make sure everything is centered by setting the positions of all blocks to the middle.

  • Print 3 copies of the green 1x1 block
  • Print 23 copies of the blue 1x1 block
  • Print 2 copies of the 1x2 block
  • Print 1 copies of the 2x2 block
  • Print 1 copy of the game board
