Slide Out Rack Organizer

There are many organizers out there that help with cleaning up clutters of different things. In an office or workspace scenario, there are many pens, small papers, or note cards that need to be stored. So, I decided to come up with an organizer that can hold these objects simply underneath one's desk that slides in and out with different options of pen cup holders, flash card boxes, and more.

I first began to brainstorm some ideas beforehand, and these are what I came up with

1. Collapsible boxes:

+ Similar to the design of those collapsible kitchen baskets

2. Folding wall mount:

+ Shelf designs: Dark wood with black metal framing

+ Floating shelf designs are popular

3. Slide out rack:

+ Wall mounted racks where people hang things on them

+ Instead of wall mounted, make it slide out from bottom of the desk

The slide out rack design that I had chosen had a rack with additional hooked containers. The containers hooks were first regular round and circular, but now they have hexagonal hooks which give it more character in the design aspect. I also did not have the paper tray in the original sketch. It was also added because I realized, as a student, I always struggled to organize my papers.

While designing the frame and rack, I did not know how to make a smooth drawer type of mechanism. I wanted the rack to pull out with wheels like other drawers, but I decided that it would be more simple to just have the rack slide off of the frame. This way it is easier for one to take it off and add other small organizers.

These are a few of the small organizers that can be hung on the rack. I designed them all to have hexagonal hooks and a somewhat hexagonal body as well.

The image above is the full assembly of the rack that will be attached underneath the desk. It will pull in and out so that one can place all their pens and papers in. There can be multiple other organizers that can be hung up on the rack as well for the customers needs.
