Sleeve-Wrap Scarf Crochet Pattern for Beginners

Make a classy little wrap to keep you warm this Autumn! This is a super easy crochet pattern for any skill level with lots of room for customization. Plus you can wear it so many different ways!

-Yarn: approximately 1000 yards (915 m) of worsted weight yarn

-Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5.00mm)

-Scissors

-Yarn Needle

-(recommended): two stitch markers or two pieces of scrap yarn

All you need to know to make this awesome scarf is:

-chain stitch (ch)

-slip stitch (sl st)

-single crochet stitch (sc)

-double crochet stitch (dc)

These four simple stitches give the sleeve-wrap scarf it's cozy texture. I used a crocheted Rib Stitch for the sleeves of my scarf and I used the Lemon Peel Stitch for the main part of the scarf.

Rib Stitch:

Row 1: 1 sc into 2nd chain from hook. 1 sc into each chain st across, turn..

Row 2: 1 Sl st into each sc across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc into each sl st across, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have reached your desired length.

Lemon Peel Stitch:

Simply alternate sc and dc stitches across, and for each additional row, you will sc in a dc of the previous row and dc in a sc of the previous row, repeating the sc1, dc1 pattern.

You can easily customize your own Sleeve-Wrap Scarf by substituting another pattern for the Lemon Peel Stitch!

The Sleeve-Wrap Scarf is simply a long, rectangular piece worked lengthwise. (Although, the ribbed texture of the sleeves makes those sections taper down in size when layed flat.)

There are three distinct sections; the two ends are the "sleeves" and will be worked in the Rib Stitch, and the center of the scarf will be worked in the Lemon Peel Stitch.

Once the rectangle has been crocheted to the proper size, the piece is folded "hot dog style" and the ends of the sleeves are sewn together, flattening out as they meld into the body of the scarf.

Begin with a chain of 351 stitches.

Place a stitch marker in the 36th stitch from the crochet hook, and the 35th stitch from the opposite end of the chain. These will indicate the "innermost" stitch in the ribbed pattern, bordering the Lemon Peel Stitch in the body of the scarf

Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, sc 1. Sc in next 34 stitches (reaching the first stitch marker) then begin the Lemon Peel Stitch by alternating 1 dc and 1 sc for the next 280 stitches. Then, finish with sc stitches across (starting from the second stitch marker and continuing until the end of the row). Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: In 2nd stitch from hook, sl st 1. Sl st in next 34 stitches (reaching stitch marker) then begin Lemon Peel Stitch (remember to sc in the previous rows dc stitches and dc in the previous rows sc stitches) in next 280 stitches. Finish with sl sts until end (starting from stitch marker). Ch 1, turn.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until ribbed sleeve portion reaches desired length. The sleeve should wrap comfortably around wrists. Finish Off after an iteration of Row 2, leaving a long tail to sew one of the sleeves together.

Note: When connecting a new skein of yarn, knot the two ends together leaving a few inches of tail on both ends to weave in.

Tip: To keep track of the ribbed sections, move the stitch marker accordingly as the rows progress.

Thread the darning needle with the finished-off end and sew the first sleeve together, fastening the edges a few inches past the ribbed pattern of the sleeve. Finish off, trimming and weaving in the end. Cut another length of yarn and attach it to the corner of the opposite end of the wrap. Fasten the second sleeve together, matching the length sewn together with that of the first sleeve. Finish off.

Go back and weave in any ends from joined skeins.

Now for the fun part!

The finished length of my wrap was approximately 102 inches [~260 cm]. The sleeve circumference of my project was similar to an American size Small. For larger sleeve circumference, simply increase the number of rows, which will require more yarn (and more time!). The materials are relative to my Sleeve-Wrap Scarf's final measurements, but you may always estimate a custom size and adjust accordingly. Of course, you should choose a color and fiber that you love and make your Sleeve-Wrap Scarf totally unique. Feel free to get creative and change up the materials! Keep in mind that an increase in crochet hook size or the number of stitches will requires more yarn and so forth.

Remember: This project is worked length-wise and is very intricate based on the recommended hook size. The Sleeve-Wrap Scarf will take several hours to make. Be patient with the project and you will soon reap the rewards of a totally unique Fall fashion accessory! Happy crafting!
