In this instructable I will show you how to make your own Daedric Sword (From Skyrim). This is a fairly easy process but as always it can be time consuming if you want to make it more detailed. The tools used here are flexible and you can use alternatives if you find it easier (or don't have the tools available).

Tools
Hot Wire Cutter
Glue Gun
Wet and Dry Paper
Paint Brushes

Materials
25mm Styrofoam
Acrylic Paints
Oil Pastels
Masking Tape
Newspaper

Tracing

step 1 trace.JPG
Start off by drawing up and then printing off the template for the sword. I used Techsoft's 2D Design for this as it was easy to draw around the sword with. Once you have it printed out trace it onto the Styrofoam. When tracing I would use the masking tape to attach the template to the foam. although the blade and handle will be separate later on, to begin with the blade and handle will be attached and should be drawn together (shown in the image).

Cutting Out

Now the templates are ready you can cut around the foam. cut around the whole sword first and then separate the blade from the handle (shown in the pictures). now you should take a bit off the thickness of the blade. I took off around 10mm but its up to you how much (there is not a real limit or set amount).

Sand / Carve

step 3 sand.JPG
While the blade and the handle are separate you can carve and sand away. I chose to only sand away this time but you can carve with a knife if you feel more comfortable. the main things to carve are the handle (just round it a bit) and the blade (seen in pic). Obviously you can make this have as much or as little detail as you want.

Paint

Now its time to make it look pretty (well sort of). Get the acrylic paints and paint the blade silver/grey and the handle black. I bought metallic paints to the blade glistens a little but you can just mix some black and white and have a grey instead its not that important. I mixed a bit of black into the silver for the blade to make it a darker silver.

Details

Now you can add the extra details. Add a bit of silver or grey onto the handle and then add the red lines onto the relevant parts of the handle. For the silver I used the paints I have used previously. I was going to use paint for the red but did not have a brush that could paint the lines thin enough so I got a red oil pastel and drew them on. If you can use the pastel I would recommend it as it can also slightly indent into the foam which does add a bit of extra depth to the sword but paint will do the job if you don't have a pastel.

Glue/Complete

Now that everything is detailed and painted you can glue the blade to the centre of the handle (as shown in the picture) by using the glue gun. Put some glue onto the blade and then hold it in place on the handle for about a minute. Now your Daedric Sword should be ready. Enjoy.
