The 2m VHF band is perfect for local and long-distance communication when paired with a high-gain antenna. The Skeleton Slot Yagi Stack, inspired by 4S5RM Rajith, is a lightweight, high-efficiency design that offers excellent gain, narrow beamwidth, and easy stacking for DX and contesting. In this guide, I’ll show you how I built mine for maximum performance.

Building the Skeleton Slot Radiator

  1. Cut aluminum 9.8mm tubing to the precise dimensions for the slot (resonant for 2m, ~144–146 MHz).
  2. Drill or machine the slot in the radiator according to the design.
  3. Mount the radiator on the driven element support of your Yagi.
  4. Ensure the slot is clean and edges are smooth to maintain proper resonance.

Pro Tip: The skeleton slot reduces weight while maintaining a strong radiation pattern.
