Skeleton Princess Costume

Do you know a little girl who needs a cute Halloween costume? Here's a neat idea that will also keep her warm while she's trick or treating. I made this costume for my 4 year old Granddaughter and she loved it.

Using store bought sweatpants and long sleeved T-shirt it only took about 3 hours, including the Tutu.

Supplies

You will need:

A long sleeved T-shirt and a pair of sweatpants.

white cotton fabric, about 1/4 yard (an old white T-shirt would also work)

sewing machine & thread

seam ripper, scissors, straight pins

Tulle or netting, about 5 yards for a little girls size 5

30" of 1/2" elastic

Take Out Stitching

With a seam ripper, remove stitching on the inside seam of the sweatpants and the underside of the sleeves on the shirt.

Bones

Draw the ribs, leg bones and arm bones. Cut out pattern pieces.

When drawing the ribs, fold the paper in half and then cut it out, it will be symmetrical.

Pin and Sew

Pin the fabric "bones" to the T-shirt and sweatpants.

Set your sewing machine to a medium zig-zag stitch and sew around each bone and all around the rib section.

Stitch Up Seams

Sew up the underarm seams on the T-shirt and the inside leg seams on the sweatpants.

Tutu

Measure the elastic to fit the waist. Cut and sew the ends together with needle and thread. Fold up the netting and cut it into strips approximately 3" wide. Fold each strip in half and place the folded end over elastic, pull the rest of the strip through the loop and pull gently to tighten. Since I had 3 yards of black netting and 2 yards of pink netting I put on 2 black strips then 1 pink, 2 black, 1 pink and kept repeating until all the netting was used.

Evenly distribute the netting strips around the elastic.

You can cut the tulle skirt shorter if you like. Purchase an inexpensive tiara and have a happy Halloween!
