Single Strand Ringbolt Hitching

An attractive way to cover a ring or other closed object

I used a 1 1/2" O.D. iron ring in this project. I used 7' of 3/16" cotton sash cord. I left about 16" of cord Standing End which will be used after the ring is covered. I took the Working End from left to right through the ring and made a clockwise path around the Standing End

Bring WE through the ring from left to right and . . . . .

. . . underneath the two strands of the crossing you made in step one. Keep tightening the knot as you go along.

Repeat steps two and three until the ring is covered.

Bring the WE through the ring from left to right.

Pull slightly on the bight "A" that the SE goes through to slightly enlarge it

Bring the WE up through that bight

Bring the WE under the two strands of the last crossing point

And down through the bight

Take the SE to the right out of its bight

Pull on the SE To tighten the bight. Pull on the SE to complete the knot.

At this point the knot is complete.

You can cut the ends close as in the white cotton example. (you can see the end a little to the right of 6:30. A dab of clear glue will prevent the ends from undoing. Melt the ends with a flame if you use synthetic cord.

You can also finish by using the two strand closing knot of your choice. The diamond knot is a good choice. In the yellow example I used the crown and diamond
