Singer 29K-1 Sew Plate Reverse Engineering S.K.9442
I was lucky to get a Singer 29K-1 from year 1911. One of the early models. Luckily most of the components were in tact, so no huge fabrication was needed to get the mashine work. But the sew plate was worn out and corroded badly.
I searched the internet for possible replacement, but no luck. All the available sew plates where different from mine. Nowhere to find the part number S.K.9442...
As i have the possibility to reproduce the part i went for it.
Supplies
- 10*25*2,5 mm steel plate (not SST, you need to do some adjustments by hand)
- 3D scanning machine ...
- CNC machine
3D Scan the Part
No way to do it at home, i used company equipment and share the data with you
Kružnice (CZ) means = cyrcle
Create Drawing
I think its obvious from the drawing what are the measured data

Production
The holes where produced on the CNC mill. The other works we made by hand to save time, effort and material.
Once the holes where made i alligned the parts via center hole and draw the outer line around the original part.
It was ruffly grinded to get close to original shape.
The final shape was done by hand.
Few of the features from the original part was transferred to the new part by hand. See pic
Polishing
Make the part pretty.
I scuffed by 2000 grid sandpaper and polished on the wheel with coarse paste
Done, see the result. Works like a charm :)
Test
Test the part by using it, adjust the positions where the thread could stuck and brake.
