Sinful Cinnamon Roll Candied Bacon Doughnuts

Eating these feels like they should be illegal! Yes, they are fried, and they are sinfully delicious! These are the type of treat that you eat too much of even though you know you shouldn't, but they are so good it's just too hard to resist. They are the type of food that you take a bite of, and you tilt your head up ever so slightly and close your eyes because you know this is a moment to cherish. You involuntarily say,"MMMMMmmmmmmm" as you chew them taking in all the flavor and textures. The combination of the sweet and salty mixed with the touch of cinnamon spice is next level breakfasting!

Total cooking time is about 30 mins.

Supplies

Ingredients:

Can of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls, the regular ones not the Grands

Thick Slice Bacon - Get the good stuff you only live once

Brown Sugar

Maple Syrup

Peanut Oil

Tools:

Sheet Pan

Wire Rack

Toaster Oven or Regular Oven

Measuring Cups

Mixing Bowls

Whisk

Cutting Board

Deep Fryer or Large Deep Pan for Frying

Since I am making a small batch, I am using my toaster oven baking sheet and wire rack. It's just the right size for two to three slices of bacon. I line the pan with foil to make clean up a lot easier. This goes into a toaster oven at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

I highly recommend using a good quality thick cut bacon for this, my favorite brand is Wright Brand, #notasponsorbutwouldtotallyrepthemiftheyletme it's on the pricey side but I try to buy it when it's on sale.

While the bacon is in the toaster oven measure out 1/8 of cup of maple syrup and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar into a small bowl. Use a small whisk or a fork and combine the two ingredients until it's a consistent smooth liquid. And set this aside until your 10-minute bacon timer goes off.

After 10 minutes take the bacon out and brush on your maple syrup and brown sugar mixture and flip the bacon and brush on the other side. Then put it back in the toaster oven for 5 minutes. Then take it out of the toaster oven and brush on the maple syrup and brown sugar mixture on both sides again. Repeat these two more times at 5-minute intervals. The bacon will take about 30-35 minutes to cook depending on your oven. Just keep an eye on it until it starts to turn a nice dark red color and the drippings start to turn brown. Once it's done take it out of the oven and let cool on parchment paper.

*If you run out of the maple syrup and brown sugar mixture that's okay as long as you have coated the bacon on both sides a couple of times it will still come out devine.

Once the bacon has cooled chop it up you are going for a fine dice and set aside while you fry up the doughnuts.

I take the Pillsbury cinnamon rolls out of the fridge and open the can and let the doughnuts come up to room temperature on a sheet of parchment paper. I make sure all the cinnamon rolls are face down or rather the cinnamon side is facing down (see pic 2 and 3 for the difference in the top and bottom). I do this because it is easier to cut the donut holes when they are face down. I take a 3/4-inch doughnut hole cutter and remove the center of all the cinnamon rolls. And yes you can also fry up the donut holes. I set them aside while my fryer oil comes to temperature.

I use a deep fat fryer to make these, but you can also use a deep pan. I prefer to use peanut oil but vegetable oil will also work. Heat the oil up to 350 degrees. Once the oil comes up to temperature slowly lower the doughnuts into the oil do not let them drop as they may create a big splash which may result in a burn. I cook each doughnut for 1 minute and 15 seconds per side. Then I remove the doughnuts and place them on a wire rack to cool.

These are best served when they are slightly warm, however I prefer for the glaze to remain a little stiffer and not just melt off. So, once they have cooled, I use a butter knife to spread the glaze on to each of the doughnuts. The glaze I use is the one that comes with the package of doughnuts. But if you run out, sometimes I am a little too generous with the glaze, you can always substitute Pillsbury Brand Vanilla Frosting. It tastes almost identical to the glaze that comes in the cinnamon roll package. We keep a can of the Vanilla Frosting in the pantry for emergencies just like these.

After you glaze the donuts just sprinkle the tops with the candied bacon and enjoy. These are hands down some of the best out of the can donuts. Everyone in my house loves them. I really do hope you all try making these, they will not disappoint. Thanks for reading my Instructable. Happy Eating!!
