Simplifying an Expression

After going through these steps you should know how to simplify an expression and use a calculator to check your answer.

Rules

The order in which we evaluate expressions can be ambiguous.

First Step

Because of the exponent we must compute it first. Notice that we are really just multiplying 2, six times. 

Step 2

Now we multiply more. In general we should be starting from the left and then working our way to the right, but because of notation we start with the exponent. 

Step 3

Remember to start adding and subtracting from the left and work you way to the right.
