So, I was looking for a way to store a few of my favorite books without taking up space on my desk or needing a big bookshelf. I came across some ideas online, but most of them were either expensive or just didn’t fit the vibe I was going for.

That’s when I decided to make this super simple hanging bookshelf using a wooden rack and some string. It’s kind of like giving your books their own little swings on the wall — and honestly, it turned out better than I expected!

Supplies

thick bamboo rod 1 m long ,and 2cm thick – this makes up the main horizontal structure.

Several thin wooden skewers/stakes – for the vertical pegs where the books will hang.

2 screws + wall plugs – to securely mount everything.

Natural jute rope – this is what I used to hang the books. You can use any strong cord or string.

Cut the Bamboo Rod

1- cut the bamboo rod to :

2 pieces that are 30 cm long – these will be the main horizontal supports of the bookshelf.

2 small pieces that are 4 cm long – these will act as wall spacers or supports to give the shelf some breathing room from the wall.

Unfortunately I forgot to take a separate picture after cutting them, but if you look at the first supplies photo, you can see all the pieces clearly laid out before the build started.

2- cut the wooden sticks to 8cm x7 pieces

Glue and Wrap the Shelf Pieces Together

1-Grab your two 30 cm bamboo rods and the thin 8 cm wooden sticks (you can see them in the photos). These thinner sticks will act like vertical connectors or pegs between the rods.

2-Once the top part is stable, grab your rope and start wrapping it around the structure.

3-Glue the Lower Part(4 cm rods) to the upper part of the shelf just like in the photos

Get the Hanging Rope Ready for the Books

we are goning to need 3 8cm thin sticks for each book

1-Cut about 120 cm of rope for each book hanger — this length lets you adjust the hanging height easily.

2-For each book, cut three thin sticks, each 8 cm long.

3-Take two of those 8 cm sticks and form an X shape by crossing them in the middle. Glue them together where they cross and let it dry.

4-Now, take the third 8 cm stick and glue it horizontally to both sides of the rope near the bottom, right below the X shape. The rope should be “linked” through this stick — this will hold the book securely.

Mount the Shelf on the Wall

1- First, make sure your drilled holes are as clean and neat as possible

2- Secure the shelf to the wall
