Simple Yoga Ball - Rolling Away Stopper - Easy and Cheap

Funnel.jpg

This is meant as a solution to prevent your yoga ball rolling away if you have it at your desk. Since the Pandemic, many more people have been working at home. Some people, like myself, have started sitting on a yoga ball to assist with seating posture as well as get a bit of an ab workout while working. I have hardwood flooring in my office at home, and sometimes my yoga ball would start rolling away by itself. It needed some weight in the bottom of it. I tried some of the yoga ball stands available, and none of them grip to wood, so if i wanted to have more of a yoga ball chair, then I needed to make it myself. It's quick and easy to make.

Supplies

REQUIRED ITEMS:

  • Yoga Ball - Any size you are using for a chair. I prefer 48 - 55 cm. This links to the one that I use.
  • Play Sand - It doesn't take much, a few pounds only - approx 3-5 lbs. You can also get this at a local hardware store, but I was lazy and got it on Amazon. It just has to be fine. The finer, the better.
  • Funnel
  • Rubber Tubing - needs to be able to fit in the funnel and into the yoga ball air hole. I'm not exactly sure what size I used because I had it laying around. Needs to be able to fit into the yoga ball and the funnel
  • Electrical Tape
  • A small cup to scoop sand into the funnel.

OPTIONAL ITEMS:

  • Electric or Manual Pump - If you don't want to blow it up with your lungs. I used this one the second time I made this. Highly recommend a pump.
  • Small wooden stick - I used a chopstick

Partially Inflate Yoga Ball

The yoga ball cannot be fully inflated when you are trying to do this. If it is, you will get sprayed with sand when pouring it in the funnel............ ask me how I know this.

You need a bit of air in the ball to allow the sand to pour out of the tube though. Approximately 20% filled.

Sorry, but I wasn't able to get a picture at this step.

Ready Your Tubing, Funnel and Yoga Ball

Make sure that you can fit your rubber tubing in both the funnel and the yoga ball. You want about 1-2 feet of tubing.

Use the electric tape to secure the tubing to the funnel and wrap it around about an inch above and an inch below the funnel. You want the tubing inserted about 1/2 into the funnel.

After taping the funnel to the tubing, feed the tub into the yoga ball a few inches, then tape it down. This just makes it easier and stops it from accidently pulling out while your filling it.

Add Sand to the Funnel

I found that sitting on the floor near your bag of sand and holding the yoga ball in place with my knees worked pretty well for this step. once your funnel is feeding into the yoga ball, you are ready to start filling it. Using one hand to hold the funnel up and the other to slowly add sand to the funnel using the small cup. This can be a pretty slow process as the ball opening is generally pretty small.

Remove Funnel and Plug the Ball

After its got about 3-4 lbs of sand in the ball, remove the funnel from the ball. Then use your pump, or your lungs, to fill the yoga ball as much as you need and then plug it. You now have a yoga ball that won't roll away when you leave your desk!
