Simple Quilt

I wanted to complete something nice and personal for one of my friends for their birthday. I have made stuffed animals in the past and am still figuring out everything else I can do. So I looked at quilts, however the patterning and everything was tricky. So instead of making one of those fancy quilts that involve sewing the back and following backing patterns I just pulled together some fabrics in square form and sewed them together. Then I added a fabric to the back so it looks neat! It takes some time but if you need something to give someone they will totally love it!!!!

2 1/2 yards (2.286 meters) of fleece like material

77 pieces of 15cm x 15cm (roughly 8in x 8in) square (I used 8 different materials but just have at least 2 different materials)

Sissors

Ruler (for cuting the squares to size)

Sewing machine (and everything that involves)

The size doesn't actually matter I just suggested 15cm by 15cm, that way its a nice size.

My pattern is shown above. I used 8 fabrics and so that means 77 pieces. 7 columns across and 11 rows down.

Now that you have the pattern we have to sew them together. In accordance to my pattern I sew square 1 to 2, then 1 and 2 to 3, and so on. This all connects all the squares into one row.

**I suggest sewing the pieces together with a zigzag pattern about a quarter of an inch away from the edge of the fabric as seen in the photo.

After at least two rows are completed you sew them together.

Repeat this until all the rows are connected to each other.

Now the quilted pattern is sewn together. The next step is to make sure the edges are evened out so it makes a true rectangle.

Fold The fleece blanket around the quilt pattern, This way you will fold it in slightly and not cover the quilt pattern. The purpose for this step is to sew a lining on the fleece so it is less likely to fray.

**Note this is more of a preference and can be skipped, just know that it will make the next step a bit more difficult because the fold will not be as secure.

The final step is to lay the quilting stuffing in between the quilt fabric and the fleece. Make sure to sew the edges carefully so that everything is sewn together.

You have completed a basic quilt!!!
