Simple Faux Fur Throw!

Skill Level: Beginner.

This throw blanket is very warm. It coordinates nicely with a sheepskin rug we have nearby.

Perfect for one person. For a blanket big enough to share, you will want to double the size.

Select a backing color very close in color for a higher end look.

Supplies

1 yard Faux fur long pile, cream colored.

1 3/4 yards coordinating flannel (depending on flannel width... the fur I purchased is 60" wide. Many flannels are only 44" wide. If it is 44" wide, you will need 1 3/4 yards of flannel, if it is 60" wide or wider, 1 yard will be enough.)

Thread to match.

Basic sewing machine.

Needle for hand sewing.

Prepare Your Fabrics

Trim fur, if needed, so cut edges are straight, and trim off any straggly salvage edge.

Tip - when cutting fur, cut the back fabric only, not all the way through the fur, then pull it apart gently to separate - you don't want the fur to appear trimmed/chopped, and it's a lot less messy. Look up YouTube videos for tips, if needed. I like to use a sharp trimming scissors.

Cut flannel to same size as fur piece, presumably 36" x 60"

(Note: if an extra large throw is desired, increase yardage accordingly, perhaps up to 2 yards)

Sew

Place fur on your work surface fur facing up.

Place flannel on fur, wrong side facing up, right side facing fur. Line up corners and edges.

I find it helpful to pin/clip together in several places to keep it aligned.

Sew edges in 1/2" seam. Leaving an opening on one edge about 10" in length.

Turn throw blanket right side out.

Along stitched edges you my see some of the fur caught in stitching. Gently pull it free, I like to use a pin. It cleans up the edge.

Slip stitch opening closed.

Enjoy!
