Butter and Sugar
First let's preheat the oven to 300 Degrees F. or 148 C. Then let's cream our softened butter with our sugar using a stand mixer or hand mixer, adding about a third of the sugar at a time, then using a spatula at the end to scrape down the sides of the bowl.
Add Those Eggs
Now let's add our eggs one at a time, mixing until just the yellow from the egg yolks are incorporated. Use the medium speed setting on your mixer. Again, scrape the sides when you are done with the last egg. So add egg, mix, add egg, mix, etc.
Flour and Milk
Now we want to add in our milk and four, alternating between the two ingredients. Add some flour first, mix it in, then add some milk, mix it in, add some flour, mix it in, then some milk, etc. until all mixed in, again scraping the sides as needed. This whole process we are adding air into our batter, which helps make for a lighter cake.
Fold, Fill, Bake
Now let's remove the beaters from the mixer, then let's fold in our vanilla extract with our spatula, why not use the mixer again? We don't want to over mix because we might lose some of the air we have incorporated into the batter. You will be able to tell how light and fluffy the batter is. Now add the batter to a tube pan or bundt cake pan or two bread pans, or rounds. Whatever you would like to use, make sure to add butter or shortening to the sides and bottom of your pans and then add some flour to coat. This will help keep the cake from sticking. Now for the tube pan or bundt cake pan, bake for 1 hour and 30 to 40 minutes, until a long tooth pick or wooden skewer comes out clean when poked. Less time if baked in a bread pan or the rounds. Once the cake comes out of the oven, let it sit in its pan for 10 to 15 minutes to cool.
Remove and Serve
Now let's turn it over and take the cake out of the pan. Nice! Then just top it off with your favorite glaze, or strawberry sauce, whipped cream, etc. Serve it up and enjoy! :)
