Designing desks is quite a fun process, but it gets pretty expensive. In this article, I’ll show you how to make some DIY desk decor, with the basic supplies you’ve probably got at home!

Supplies

Small whiteboard, a string of yarn, a tape roll, black pen, red pen, pencil, colorful markers or highlighters, two envelopes, 5 sheets of white/copy paper, 2 sheets of small white paper, one sheet of notebook paper, a cereal box, a pencil holder, a plain piece of wood, a counter colored (or whatever colored) piece of wood, glue, and sticky notes.

Step One: Gather Your Supplies

Your supplies should be at your working desk, so you won’t need to keep running around looking for anything.

Take the cereal box and draw a line with the black pen from the top left corner to halfway the box. Start cutting the box while tracing the line.
Next, take double stick tape and paste on any kind of wallpaper you’d like, that’s the easier version, I recommend you do this for more simplicity, and perfection, but here’s what I did;
Put a medium sized copy/white paper on one side of the cereal box, while holding it straight in its position, cut the paper off according to the box, you should end up with the paper cut in the same shape as the cereal box. Do the same thing for the other side of the box, and then
Put some glue on the box, and spread it thoroughly on both sides. Glue the papers on the box, and from the scraps, measure the sides of the box and cut the paper, glue those pieces too. Now using the markers, feel free to make any sort of design on the paper. After this step, you are officially done with making this piece of decor!

Motivational Notes Decoration Piece

Now this decoration is actually pretty simple, even though it looks so fancy!
You’ll be needing just three supplies; a colored piece of wood, a black pen/marker, and sticky notes(The color depends on your choice!)
Write motivational quotes on five sticky notes, you can see the picture to see what I wrote if you don’t know what to write. Keeping an adequate distance between each of the notes, stick the notes on to the piece of wood, remember, the distance between each note should be equal! As easy as that! Now you can hang this piece anywhere or drill it in the wall, your choice!

Aesthetic Pennant Banner

This decoration is pretty cute and aesthetic to look at, and it gives a great addition to wall decor near your desk!
You will need one string of yarn, two small strips of tape, markers, and three copy/white papers. Start off by folding one piece of paper and cutting two triangles out of it. Remember that the triangles should look like diamonds when unfolded. Make six pieces like these and set them aside. Now using the markers, start drawing any kind of design you’d like on both the front and back of the pieces, I did these designs as shown in the picture above as the front, and wrote letters to spell out a name in the back, this lets you change the design to whatever you want anytime.
You could also simply cut some wallpaper into triangles instead of designing the papers. Now tape one side of the yarn onto the wall, and gently slide on each of the pieces in any order, be gentle or they could fall off. Now tape the other side on too, and you’re done! Aesthetically simple, isn’t it?!

Reflect Back to Yesterday Self Mail Holder

This decor piece is actually more useful motivationally then you think. In the envelopes, you can write how you felt and slip a paper in, to reflect back on how you’ve improved the other day!
You’ll be needing a plain piece of wood, tape or glue, and two envelopes. On the piece of wood, spread a small amount of glue on both sides, or put double sided tape, if you don’t have it, then just fold the tape and put it on both sides. Then position the envelopes on the wood and press them on tightly. If you used glue then let it set for 5-10 minutes. Now use a small piece of copy/white paper and write “mail” on it and do some designs; you can do it like me if you want! Glue or tape on the paper in the middle of the wood piece. As easy as it looks!
Now you can use it to add slips about your day inside the envelopes and reflect back for improvement the next day! This really helps me a lot, so I guarantee you with improvement!

These lanterns are super cute and fun decorations to hang or keep on your desk! It’s very simple to make, so all you’ll need is a pair of scissors, tape, markers, and one sheet of medium copy/white paper. ( Don’t go on the number of supplies!)
Take a piece of paper and draw any deign you’d like.
Fold the piece of paper into an exact half, and while keeping a consistent distance of one finger, make cuts into the paper, so that in the end you’ll have the paper left with cuts from left to right. Now unfold the paper and you’ll see a bunch of cuts in the middle of the paper. Using glue or tape, stick the vertical sides of the paper together, forming the lantern itself. Take another piece of paper and cut a small strip off. Decorate the strip according to the lantern’s pattern, and glue/tape it on the top, making a handle for the lantern. And there you have it, a simple and cute decoration to accent your desk perfectly! Make some of these and hang them on the wall or roof, or just put them on your desk for a perfect look to your desk!

While cutting the piece of yarn, you may end up with some extras, but if you don’t, take a small piece of yarn and tie it into a small bow. Glue or tape it onto your pencil holder, whether it’s a boring or a fancy one, this bow will make a cute addition to your pencil holder!

Cut a small piece of notebook paper and using black and red pen, write a note and pin it on your whiteboard. Makes a real cute addition! Don’t forget to write down a quote that’ll remind/motivate you for the day!

Using glitter glue, put a few drops on your boring notebook’s title cover. Smear it over, and it’ll simply look glamorous!
