Simple Chair Pocket

Since my apartment is small, I don't have room for a coffee table. But I still wanted storage near my chair for my tv remotes. So I made this quick and cheap "chair pocket" to solve that problem. It was heavily inspired by the "couch caddy", but I wanted to use supplies I already had on hand.

Although you could make this from any scrap of fabric, I chose to use a dish towel (~18" x 12") to avoid having to hem the edges.

Fold the bottom edge up about 2/3 of the way to form the pocket.

Then sew the edge of the pocket and turn it inside out to hide the seam. If you have matching thread, you can leave it seam side out if you like.

Once the pocket is made, drape the towel over the arm of the chair and adjust it until you're happy with the positioning. Since the chair was cheap, I sewed the towel directly to the fabric of the arm using a loose stitch. If I need to wash it, I'll simply cut the threads and re-sew it. You could also use snaps or velcro if you want it to be easier to remove.

Start storing your remotes in the pocket instead of around the apartment. I've had it for a few months now and despite being sewn on it hasn't damaged the chair's fabric at all. It's also thin enough that I don't notice the extra layer of fabric when I'm using the chair.
