Simple Aquarium Background

Aquarium backgrounds can be very expensive, and hard to put on. This tutorial will show you how to make quick, cheap, and easy background for your aquarium. To top it all off, you get to admire your hard work at the end!

3/4 inch velcro

various blue and green paints

1/4 inch plywood

paper towels

To start off, measure the back of your tank and write it down. Find paints in various shades of blue and green. Pick 3 of your favorites (you may have to mix colors).

Cut a sheet of 1/4 inch plywood to the same size as the back of your tank. Sand the sides and make sure it fits.

When I paint my backgrounds, I like to do 1 1/2 inch diagonal strips of alternating colors. I do 1 of each color, then smear the wet paint with a paper towel in circles. This gives it more of a blending color look. Keep doing this until you reach the end of the wood. Let the paint dry for about an hour, than go outside and spray 2-3 coats of clear spray paint. This will make it last longer.

Yay! Finally it's time to put this on your aquarium. Cut 4-6 two inch strips of velcro loop, depending on how big your tank is. Stick them very carefully on the 4 corners behind your aquarium. Then, cut the same amount of 2 inch strips out of velcro hooks. Stick them on the the corners of the background. Finally, carefully press the velcro into each other, and your done!
