Simple 3d Printed Bird Feeder

IMG_9394 crop.jpg

We designed and printed a simple bird feeder that is light enough to hang from places like your washing line for smaller birds. We decided to do this as we have a nest box on the side of our house and it contained a pair of blue tit's nesting. We thought we would design a feeder to help them out, and we had the bonus of being able to see the birds through out the day and keep an eye on their progress.

Design Process

We basically start with a cube and a cylinder, then joined them together to make an archway toped cube, we then added another cube and cut the original form out, we then used a pyramid primitive and resized it to fit to top. We cut a cylindrical hole in the pyramid to add a tie-wrap hanging loop hole.

We used our anycubic mega s to print the 2 tiers and a roof component and glued them together although the components are hopefully small enough for most 3d printers, we duplicated the main body in our slicing software rather than in CAD as it was easier to arrange on the print bed.

CURAMAKER settings

Material PLA (it wont last as long in the sun but its at least enviro friendly)

Infill 15% zigzag to keep it light.

0.3ml accuracy (draft)

hot end temp 205 deg C

bed 65 deg C

When you have printer as many tiers as you want, glue them together and hang.
