The Dover Public Library hosted an Instructables' Build Night featuring Makey Makey kits. Our patrons were invited to experiment with the kits to turn everyday objects into controllers, keyboards, or musical instruments. In this Instructable we will be showing how to create your very own Makey Makey Play-Doh controller for Simon Says online.

You Will Need:

  • 1 - Makey Makey Kit
  • A Computer or Laptop
  • Play-Doh (4 colors)
  • Aluminum Foil (Optional)

Flatten Play-Doh and arrange on the table to reflect the Simon Says colors. Place the alligator clips into the Play-Doh. The clips are then connected to the Makey Makey. Be sure to connect the directions correctly!

Ground the Makey Makey

The Makey Makey needs the be connected to "Earth." We didn't want to have to hold the clip as we played so we took a little foil and made a bracelet. The alligator clip attached to the foil bracelet to complete the circuit. Hands free play!

Using Scratch children/teens can develop their own Simon Says or other game program. If time is limited, several Simon Says games can be found online. For our program we used the game found on this site.
